The ancient city of Zhijin has a time-honored history and splendid culture, which was first built in 1382, the 15^th year in the reign of the emperor Hongwu in the Ming dynasty. It was established as a prefecture in the Qing dynasty, built of wood and mud respectively in 1666 and 1668, the 5^th and 7^th year in the reign of the emperor Kangxi, and then rebuilt of stone in 1749, the 14^th year in the reign of the emperor Qianlong. In 1991, it was listed as a historical and cultural city at provincial level, with 74 cultural relics and historical sites, 25 of which were national key cultural relic protection units. Located in the center of this ancient city, the Temple of God of Wealth is an unparalleled ancient architectural marvel throughout China, which is merged with four nunneries, four pavilions, four pagodas, four ancestral temples and eight grand temples. Moreover, elegant natural landscapes can be found all over the city. The most famous landscapes in the city are the grand eight natural scenes: “Dongsiwanzhong”, when evening is drawing near, the bells of the Dongshansi Temple can be heard 20 kilometers from afar; “Yushan”, the massive cliff of the Yushan Hill stands like a wooden fish used by monks; “Huilongyongpu”, the water of the Huilongtan Pool flows down into a river, forming a waterfall and whirlpools; “Yusajinqiao”, an old stone bridge is crossing a quiet little river; “Shuangtanduijing”, a stone paved road divides a square pool into two parts, looking like a pair of mirrors reflecting each other; “Santangunyue”, three neighboring pools mirror the moon; “Xishanzaoxue”, a white crag in the west of the city looks like being covered with snow all the year round; and “Shuangliujilang”, springs pour out of two adjacent caves, making waves and sending up pearly sprays. Moreover, the eight tiny natural scenes and the eight additional natural scenes make this ancient city flowing light and color. Outside the city, there is jaw-dropping scenery, the magnificent Zhijin Pass like a rock gallery has jagged rocks of grotesque shapes, and caves and grottoes can be found everywhere. The 55 meters high Zhijin Waterfall flies straight down with a thundering sound, and splashes about as jumping silver beads. The Daxingqiao Scenic Area has a wonderful view of hills, lakes, bamboos, lakeshores and peaks, bringing people to a world of fairyland.
